Musical history is full of blazing, soulful duets – Carla & Otis, Marvin & Tammi, Smoove & Turrell. Wait – no – that’s not right – I meant John Turrell and Izo FitzRoy on new Smoove & Turrell single You’re Gone! Not that Smoove is ever far away from any action involving JT and here he supplies a pumping disco groove over which Turrell and FitzRoy explore the classic soul duet trope of completely failing to understand each other’s needs but desperately needing one another nonetheless, “Who’m I gonna turn to now/ When you’re gone/ Need you but just tell me how/ If you’re gone.” Honestly – lovers eh? Still, as always on planet soul, things might be going down the tubes but they still sound great. Oh – did I mention that Smoove & Turrell have a new album, Mount Pleasant, out shortly? No? Well they do and this is the first single. Check it and dreamy flip A Deckham Love Song below.
(Out 4 May on Jalapeno Records – vinyl delayed for 3/4 weeks due to a production issue)
