ORCHESTRA MAMBO INTERNATIONAL : Mambo Te Llama/ Del Callejón (Vinyl 7″)

Latin lovers (and those who like Latin music – thank you I’m here all week!) get hip to the imminent arrival of forthcoming vinyl 7″ Mambo Te Llama b/w Del Callejón from UK-based, 12-piece band Orchestra Mambo International. No prizes for guessing what style of music they play. Mambo is, of course, the musical genre originating in 1930s Cuba that had become a global craze by the 1950s and it’s pretty much undisputed king is, of course, Tito Puente whose compositions are the inspiration behind both sides of this record. Mambo Te Llama (Mambo Calls) is the fiery fast one while the flip is the slightly slinkier Del Callejón (From The Alley). The band only formed two years ago but have already played with the likes of Joe Bataan, New Mastersounds, Haggis Horns and Snowboy & The Latin Section. Listening to this, you can see why – I think even Tito would be impressed.
(Out 3 May on ATA Records)
