Vol. 26 of Katakana Edits features the output of the mysterious Timewrap – no idea who he is – but what has he brought you? Well, in short, a hypnotic reggae Beasties groove, a loose and jazz-funky Beasties to get your body movin’, some re-worked funky Bambaataa and – er – jazz house. That’s not the end of the recent stirrings in camp Katakana of course, for where one drop is, another follows soon after – or as Yoda might have it, “always two there are.” In this case it’s Manjah. What again? But didn’t he do Katakana Vol. 25 recently after a period of very little at all? He certainly did and now he’s cracking them out like a man who’s just had his wrist-cast removed for here is Vol. 27 packed with a latin break, a titty-shaking garage rock break, a dixie-swing break, a bossa break, and a brace of cumbia breaks – one with vocal dancehall decoration. E to the K? K to the muthafucking E.
(Both volumes out now on Katakana Edits)
