Massive new one from X-Ray Ted who goes from strength to strength as a purveyor of breakbeat soul that is healthily informed by the late sixties sound. Here, offering an enticing insight into what to expect from his forthcoming album, is Dance With Me featuring singer Carys Abigail. As its basis, the track uses sample loops of a 1969 soul banger by an artist on the SSS International label which – if you were listening to Craig Charles Funky Future Releases of ‘2024 show back in January – you can expect to hear on another big-ass track by another name in the breakbeat soul market before the year is out. The tempo on this is a bit slower than the source material and XRT employs a syncopated beat that the original could definitely have used. Add in a plethora of FX, a sample that might sound Public Enemy but is actually Young & Restless (thanks Glenn!) and finally Abigail’s new vocal and it all adds up to a very large track indeed that will certainly have you dancing with Mr Ted. One can only hope this appears on vinyl 7″ at some point. Be rude not to press it, really…
