HARVEY K-TEL: Hotstylin’/ Babylon Bop (2012)

[RATING: 5]
Time was a year or so ago, I couldn’t open my inbox without word of another reggae mash-up appearing on my digital doormat. Of late though, things have fallen unusually quiet and I was starting to bemoan the lack of any recent cheeky reggae bumps when who should get in touch but bass music’s Mr White – Harvey K-Tel. Even if you don’t know of him you almost certainly know his work. That genius reggae remix of Blueboy’s Remember Me for example – yep that’s him. That rocksteady remix of Adele? Him too. Anyway – he’s got a new 7 inch out this month so happy days are here again. A-side Hotstylin’ is a summer-ready uptempo top rankin remix of Ini Kamoze’s Here Comes The Hotstepper – and then he hooks up with his homie Snorkie for B-side Babylon Bop which (as has become de rigeur lately) is even better. Original New York punks The Ramones in a King Tubby stylee? I think so! Altogether now – hey ho/ let’s go!
