FOLD: Concrete Things

FOLD: Concrete Things Fold have just released their track Concrete Things, “in defiance of these dark times…in case it might bring joy to anyone,” and lord knows a bit of joy wouldn’t come amiss amid the government’s cack-handed failure to get a grip on Covid-19. The track itself constitutes a tribute to African-American playwright Lorraine Hansberry (the first African-American to have a play performed on Broadway back in 1959) and takes the form of a funky downtempo breakbeat soundscape featuring vocal samples of Hansberry herself. Recently Huey Morgan’s ‘Beat of the Week’ no less, the track has also had a spin from Gideon Coe. In additional good news, the band have just made their back catalogue freely downloadable on Bandcamp for the forseeable. Now that’s something concrete you can get your head around.
