Ale Tosses‘ production conveyor belt seems to be working overtime at the minute – this is at least his third release this year! Scratch Beats Vol. 1 boasts heavier beats, snarlier synths and arguably wider appeal though. While the feel is broadly ghetto funky/ glitch breaksy – blues and funk get sucked into the mix too. Opener Adderall is a warping, pitch-shifting funk monster and Funky Fresh filters old school hip-hop and the late, great JB through a ghetto breaks prism, while To The River goes hard on an electro-blues tip and Work Song brings some soul-blues-tinged synth judder.
