[RATING: 5] More familiar to MB readers in his former role as Big Boss Man’s bassist and also as one half of Mako & The Hawk, The Hawk has recently been building the rep. of his scorching new live combo, The Hawkmen – an outfit currently being championed by no lesser a personage than Craig Charles. With a long-promised LP still in the offing, the time has come at least for a new 45. They should probably get someone they know well to write the PR blah for that. Oh, hello, – what’s this: Following five original singles of blistering ‘hotrod n soul’, The Hawkmen now turn their attentions to a brace of early sixties rnb classics. A-side, Soulful Dress, is a dancefloor heater that sees the Sugar Pie DeSanto stomper saucily re-clothed in pounding double bass and piano rhythms while the guitar-led rawness of Johnny Kidd’s I Can Tell is re-versioned into a scorching organ-drenched soul groover. And you know what that means don’t you? That’s right – it means you are going to the party, you’re going have some fun – hell – you are gonna shake and shout until the morning come! ‘Soulful Dress Tour’ 2018 dates below vid.
