SOUL FLIP EDITS 7: In The Basement / My Sweet Lord (Vinyl 7″)

SOUL FLIP EDITS 7: In The Basement / My Sweet Lord (Vinyl 7Good lord! It’s Soul Flip Edits 7 the label’s third drop this year alone – or perhaps that should that be My Sweet Lord! since the B-side here re-flips John Gary Williams’ mid-tempo rendition of the George Harrison song into a storming northern soul mover whilst cunningly retaining the original tempo breakdown of course. That’ll be the bit during which Williams makes a soft-spoken soul man-style prayer that only a decade like the seventies would have the chutzpah to commit to vinyl. What sort of A-side can top that? How about a re-energised version of Etta James and Sugar Pie DeSanto’s In The Basement. As many of you will know, said Basement has no cover charge or fee and the food and drinks are free – not to mention being a venue where you can do any dance you want to. In addition to that, thanks to Messrs Gazeebo and Vanucci, you can now dance about a third longer again, a little bit more energetically and feel fully confident about dropping this amid all manner of more modern breakbeat music and knowing it’ll more than hold its own.
(Out on 28 May on Soul Flip Edits)
