PYROGENIC: Hard Like Steel

PYROGENIC: Hard Like SteelAfter numerous Cut Beetlez drops, here are yet more Finnish frolics from Fabyl Recordings in the shape of Pyrogenic’s latest single Hard Like Steel. The downtempo duo are veterans of making atmospheric instro beats since the early 90s when, armed with computer, sound card and tracker software, they pretty much had to make their own material given the apparent dearth of such offerings in southern Finland. Here, by way of an intro, the pair co-opt Curtis Mayfield’s Pusherman bassline, give it an elephant-sized dose of tranqs, add in some meditative prayer cymbals and before you know it you’re tripping like a Lapp shaman. Then, just when you’re thoroughly blissed, in comes the Japanese samurai movie vocal snippet and a healthy dose of rolling drum breaks. Pass the mushrooms, mate. Sorry – did I say ‘mushrooms’, I meant ‘spliff’…cheers.
