Dropped your album? Good, you know how it goes next, right? Leave it a few months and then drop the remix EP. Kid Acne certainly knows the score and now it’s time for five cuts off December’s Hauntology Codes – KA’s sixth solo LP and at least his third in a highly fruitful partnership with Chicago producer Spectacular Diagnostics. No Spec D on this though. Nope, this one’s all about the guest producer remixes – to wit ones from Lapgan, Cuth, Pitch 92, Kista and the mighty Tom Caruana who all do their best to try and out psychedelic-alise Mr Diagnostics for off-kilter weirdness. And so it is that the lo-fi spaceyness of Vic N Bob-tribute-by-way-of-ancient-mythology primer Eranu/ Uvavu goes a bit more blissed-out under the hands of Lapgan while Cuth jettisons the vaguely spaghetti western-ish score-type beat on Discordian Duplex in favour of a retro synth-drenched sci-fi score direction as Pitch 92 does with the Beat jazz influences on the original Ear Right and Mr Caruana does with original epic guitars on Healthy Normalz. Finally Kista does the opposite on 95 Right swapping out lazer fire FX for Rhodes piano. All of which results in a remix package that provides enticing counterpoints to the original tracks, maintaining the leftfieldness but in inventive new ways. All tracks available as instros too!
