LASH SMASHER: Get Ready Or Get Lost (2013)

Say hello to Pulpfusion‘s new alter-ego Lash Smasher and LP Get Ready Or Get Lost. Basically if you felt that the presence of Keith Flint and Maxim Reality on the The Prodigy’s Music For The Jilted Generation and Fat Of The Land was surplus to requirements or that Junkie XL’s early material was his best work, then listening to this will feel like coming home. In other words, you’re getting seventeen tracks of snarling, metal-tinged breakbeat so menacing they could wheel a crystal-meth-laden tea trolley untouched through a room of crank fiends. God’s Grace is Their Law on ‘roids and minus Pop Will Eat Itself, Pandemonium stalks along like No Good (Start The Dance) after ditching the cheesy house vocals and spending a lot of time in the gym while Never Ever has something of Breathe about it – minus the ‘kung-fu sword clash as cymbal’ effect. Personally, I’m more inclined towards the slower (but still muscular) tracks like scratch-filled, Crashgroove-featuring opener Who Are You and Electric Boogie‘s zombie-soundtrack vibe – though the title track is an obvious standout. Probably best not to listen to this with a hangover. Just a thought…
(Out now on Juno Download (exclusive) – worldwide from mid June on Pig Balls Records)
