At the start of last of summer Miami’s Tony & The Kings released muy caliente single Piropo b/w Son Del Barrio. While soul-boogaloo number Piropo was the A-side it seems that funkier, harder-hitting flip Son Del Barrio is the track that resonated more with punters, djs and producers. Enter a new two-track 45 of Son Del Barrio remixes from Will Buck and Empresarios.’ Buck’s is closest to the original but brings the rhythm slightly more to the fore, delivers an extended dubbed-out break in the middle and ultimately nearly doubles the length of the track. Empresarios meanwhile make more obvious changes – notably to the percussion and go heavy on the FX winding up with a full-on psyched-out Latin breakbeat effort. Either of these would be well-worth the price of a seven inch and you’re getting both of them on one! Don’t sleep – there are 93 copies remaining at the time of writing.
