HARDLY SUBTLE/ PEGGY LEE: You Got The Praise (VIP)/ Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay (WONDERLOVE Edit)(BATTLE WEAPONS 003)(Vinyl 7″)

Another two massive dancefloor fillers from the Battle Weapons label on 45 then – this time with offerings from Hardly Subtle and Wonderlove. First up is Hardly Subtle’s You Got The Praise which sounds like it ought to be a mash-up of Fatboy Slim’s Praise You and Candi Staton’s massive 80s soul nugget You Got The Love. Er…so isn’t it? Of course it is! The man’s named himself ‘Hardly Subtle’ – there’s nothing understated here, we’re going directly for the dancefloor jugular with bells on. Flip it over and Peggy Lee’s funky take on Otis’ Sittin’ On The Dock Of The Bay gets the remix treatment. As remixes go to make things a little more 21st century it’s relatively subtle (no pun intended) with mainly the distinctive opening drum and string stabs looped and redeployed at points throughout the track and with some additional but sympathetic drums. Dancefloors filled twice; job done! They’ve even put the bpms on the label for you so you don’t have to tap ’em out.
