Freethinker Funk Essence has been quietly beavering away with the wax funk and soul releases for a while now and he goes large on this new 45 with an A-side featuring singer Ria Currie. That’ll be a track entitled Just Need Your Love then – a pounding organ-led stomper which heads straight for the floor with big horns and squelchy guitars in tow as well by way of a bedrock for Currie (last heard of round these parts guesting on a Speedometer single) to belt things out soul sister style. Over on the flip it’s instrumental business as usual on Motorcycle Girl which revs up with a funkier drum rhythm before injecting a slappin’ and poppin’ bassline and screaming off up the road with snarling full-throttle guitars.
