FRAMEWORKS & BLURUM13: The Brickbuilders EP (2012) + album teaser free download

“BluRum! BluRum! BluRum! ” “We want you to play with us Danny. For ever and ever and…” – oh wait – hang on- that was ‘Redrum’ wasn’t it? No dismembered limbs here, more loose-limbed hip-hop from what has become a time-honoured guarantee of funkiness – the US emcee/ UK producer team-up – in this case NY rapper Blurum13 and Manchester Dj/Producer Frameworks with their Brickbuilders EP. And it wouldn’t be the first time Frameworks has worked such a coup having dropped excellence with two of my favourite rhymers Q-Ball & Curt Cazal earlier this year.

The EP leads with funky cut They Told Me showcasing Spectrum-era, Quannum-style production from Frameworks and BluRum’s distinctive growl. It gets funked up even more by Neko Neko (no stranger to fat remixes with his wicked Jeru Tha Damaja refix earlier this year) who drops a nifty rerub punctuated by what sounds like the “Huh!” vocal chops from the break on Commodores classic Assembly Line. Of the other four tracks, three are remixes of other Blurum/ Frameworks productions. Bunty Beats seems to have found the reverse-the-sample button on his box of production tricks for Real Love, Danny Drive Thru gets on a beat-heavy minimal soul tip as BluRum discusses goddesses of the ancient world while Part Time Heroes are all about the broken beats. The non-remix is another slice of chilled Quannum-esque funk-hop – Bare. Keep your eyes peeled for info on the Brickbuilders LP…This all sounds very promising. EP preview below on Juno and soundcloud and cop a free DL of two more cuts (Alone and What You Gonna Do) off the forthcoming LP via the player below them.
