DJ MONEYSHOT: The Stunt Cock EP – 2010

[rating: 5]
Think I know who might win the prize for the best name for a release (no pun intended) this year – for here is sometime Parker cohort, Moneyshot with his Stunt Cock EP. Something tells me that with a ‘vinegar stroke’–related nom de guerrre like his, he wasn’t envisaging a daredevil rooster when he came (no pun intended) up with that title. All that shenanigans aside, what Moneyshot delivers here is a three track gem showcasing his canny knack for marrying a killer hook and up-to-date funky breakbeat production. The monkey’s vote rests with the soul-sampling Holla 4 Help but the hammond plus heavy breaks plus chopped up rap samples action in Country Chops runs it a close second as does his Earth Mover which cheekily toys (no pun intended) with Carole King’s I Feel The Earth Move. So there you have it, this month’s soundtrack of choice for the discerning ‘private browser.’

  1. My friends run various music nights in the highlands of Scotland. Inverness to be precise. We booked him. And through he’ll and high water he came. Missed flights, rebooked by the goodman himself. Bonfire night was the host. Unfortunately Inverness was not ready for the enigma that arrived and we had a poor turnout. Poor in the sense that there were not many punters. Alas it was more like a private peep show into the mind of the man himself. Arriving, we welcomed him. Soundclash style. Djs Technique and Kaos Theory and little old moi, Kevin. Whiskey flowed through ideas and subsequent details of the night. It was a blast and all that were there were lucky indeed. Not only did we witness a fine polished professional performance. We made a good friend.
Stunt Cock is a fitting title. Because he takes the tools and delivers the ultimate “pop shot!” Boom!!
    Good luck Roy .
