FRAMEWORKS & BLURUM13: Brickbuilders: The Remixes (2013)

The My First Moth label build on the success of the – er – Brickbuilders LP from Mancunian producer Frameworks and Stateside emcee Blurum13 with this hod full of remixes. The original LP was constructed from Frameworks’ fat Quannum-style beats and the rhymes of Blurum whose voice (some might feel) recalls that of rapper Platypus on Kid Koala’s early 2000s side project Bullfrog. Mainly because Blurum13 is Platypus. Nice to have him back. Even if he hadn’t been away. While his verse remains on all beats except on Part Time Heroes’ take on Alone, the variety of sonic architecture now varies considerably. Blend Mishkin is on hand to supply a reggae foundation for Real Love, Danny Drive Thru strips Moonlighting right back to the piping (indeed the beat sounds like it was made by banging on some), DJ Toner puts up a funky dubstep exterior on Bare while, not to be outdone, Frameworks himself rebuilds the hypnotic stomp of What You Gonna Do with moody keys and horns. This one’s all about the rock solid funky masonry of Neko Neko‘s They Told Me Though.
