The next digital single to provide a taster of the Golden Rules label’s vinyl format contemporary funk LP sampler is from Cookin’ On 3 Burners – Wind Up. Now is that Wind Up as in ‘Are you serious? Is this a wind-up?’ or is the reference to being ‘shook’ – as in ‘he’s got the wind up’? We can’t consult the lyrics since this is an instrumental and the PR isn’t forthcoming which leaves us no option but to consider the music itself. And if we’re going there (which we probably should, what with this being a music blog) then Wind Up kicks off with a bit of chicken pickin’ before an antsy drum break comes in and is ultimately joined by rhythmic organ licks and rumbling bass. Does this tonally symbolise the glee of winding someone up though or the shredded nerves of someone on the edge. Buggered if I know. Nice tune though.
