I slept on this a bit just to make sure the ‘Rolling Stones’ of rap weren’t pulling another fast one on release dates and album names but it does seem fairly certain that the next proper Beastie Boys hip-hop album drops on 3 May this year – due in no small part to the recovery of MCA from throat cancer. Just to clarify, the album is entitled Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 (as opposed to the original title of Hot Sauce Committee Part 1) and has a virtually identical track list to the one originally slated for Part 1. However, tracks Pop Your Balloon, Bundt Cake and disappointingly B-Boys in The Cut are not included on the latest press release from Capitol while track titles The Larry Routine and The Lisa Lisa/Full Force Routine which weren’t on the original track list, are. Whether they are different tracks or different names for some of the same tracks remains to be clarified. Oh yeah – and Too Many Rappers feat. Nas is now listed as the ‘New Reactionaries version.’ Part 1 might possibly get a release at some point with the tracklist originally intended for Part 2. Oh – yeah – and the cover art now looks like your screen does when you’ve just lost Tetris. Are you following? Do you care? You probably should do since they haven’t made a shit hip-hop LP yet and all the early signs from this are that it will adequately compensate for the fact that they released not very interesting funkstrumental album The Mix Up a few years back.

(PRESS RELEASE) The wait is over, again: Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, Beastie Boys’ long anticipated eighth album, will be released May 3 by Capitol in the U.S. After going back and mixing the album one last time, the final sequence of the forthcoming HSC Part Two has now been confirmed as: (cf. tracklisting). Hot Sauce Committee Part Two was produced by Beastie Boys and mixed by Philippe Zdar. The new record will mark Mike “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Ad Rock” Horovitz and Adam “MCA” Yauch’s first full length effort since 2007’s Grammy-winning all-instrumental The Mix-Up.
