BACAO RHYTHM & STEEL BAND: Love$ick

Always on the lookout for material to cover inna steel drum funk stylee, Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band are all over anything on the hip-hop/ funk/ disco/ reggae axis that’s already got a steel drum on it. Or at least they probably would be if there were a lot of stuff on the hip-hop/ funk/ disco/ reggae axis with steel drums on it. As things stand, there’s their version of 50 Cent’s P.I.M.P. – a cover so convincing people took it for what had been sampled on the original – and now the band’s take on Mura Masa & A$AP Rocky’s Love$ick. If you dug the steel drums on the original of that, you’ll dig this even more because it’s drenched in them. Gone, meanwhile, are the original’s naughty lyrics and chipmunk soul hook which some might see as an improvement. And of course there might even be those who assume this is what was sampled on the original. Love$ick is the latest single to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming fourth studio LP, BRSB, (due early March) which is shaping up to be every bit as promising as its predecessors.
