Boca 45 might have retired (he claims!) but fear not – for one of his sons, Zee, has occasioned a proud dad moment this week with the release of new single Look To Your Soul which comes out on 45, of course. And Zee proves to be a veritable chip off the old sampler too with two cuts Boca himself might have been proud to drop back in the day. Look To You Soul is a dreamy midtempo slice of breakbeat business based around a vocal loop that nods to Shadow and the like, though tonally much more upbeat. Flipside Time – marginally slower – bumps along on a more raw version of what sounds like the same drum break (or a very similar patterned one) and is equally psychedelic if more stoned beat with the occasional vocal motif of Budd from Kill Bill intoning, “They say…the number one killer of old people is retirement.” Clearly a family with a sense of humour then.
