Stand aside youngsters, it’s time to get (old-)schooled as Soul Sonic Force’s MC G.L.O.B.E. and Funky Four Plus One’s MC Sha-Rock unite for the first time ever and get pioneering Irish turntable quartet D22 to back them for new single Scratches, Cuts and the MC’s Rhymes. Yep, an entire crew consisting of people who began plying their craft in either the late seventies or early eighties. The original version nods firmly in the direction of minimal early 80s hip-hop production while being accompanied by no fewer than five remixes (DJ Quest’s none-more-80s electro-leaning one, Green Kanine’s 80s funk-styled one, Rob Troy’s hip-house affair and two from DJ Pnutz – the uprock friendly basic one and the even more uprock-friendly ‘B-Girl mix’) along with the acapella and instro so you can whip up your own blends. And all the remixes were picked by Double Dee & Steinski too as a result of Resume Recordings’ remix contest. That’s the DJ and MC aspect covered, over to you to invite your graff-spraying mates along as you through down the cardboard, get your beatbox out, don a beanie and throw some shapes. Comes out, correctly for a hip-hop release, on 12 inches of vinyl – white wax, no less!
(Out 30 October on Resume Recordings)
