[RATING:5] 2016 is turning into something of a vintage year for rare groove fans. Following Tramp’s announcement of a huge long-lost Jesse Morgan cut which had been gathering dust for forty years, here’s Rocafort Records with a licensed re-issue of two stone-cold classic cuts from J&S Records’ house band Cross Bronx Expressway. The eponymous A-side is an uptempo blaxploitation chase theme-style number full of swirling guitars, layered percussion and hot organs while the vocal flip is even better. Also uptempo, Help Your Brothers is a gloriously hands-in-the-air seventies funk floor filler with a slightly tropical feel a la Funky Nassau and African Music Machine. Strickly limited though which means you absolutely do not want to sleep on this.
