Not content with having already had two 45s out (the Wack 25 vinyl 7″ and his remix of Betty Black’s Sweet Dreams) before the first third of the year is up, Smoove has also just dropped new 45, Wack 26 featuring Blown on the A-side and Faith on the B-side. Those listening to each cut will no doubt identify the dulcet tones of a certain Snoop and Pharrell on the former and almost certainly pick up that it’s De La Soul on the latter. Reflecting where they heard those lyrics previously, the very same listeners may recall that both Let’s Get Blown and Keepin’ The Faith made use of samples from 80s boogie-funk commandos Slave. And this is certainly a connection Smoove’s mind will have made. Being the boogie-fiend that he is though, it seems to have occurred to him that not nearly enough Slave had been sampled on either track and that they’d both be even bigger dancefloor bangers if he were only to get in the studio and…cue cartoon ricochet sound, a cloud of dust and pebbles and a rapidly disappearing figure in the far distance. That’ll have been Smoove of course, heading for his studio.
