DJP: The Nod Factor (DJP Remix)/ How Many Emcees Must Get Dissed (Toxic Funk Vol. 23)(Vinyl 7″)

It’s always worth paying attention when DJP drops material and this latest brace of remixes for Breakbeat Paradise’s Toxic Funk series merely reinforces the fact. In fact, this is less a drop of ‘material’ than ‘materiel‘ as these are bona fide bombs. Not that the original cuts by Mad Skillz and Black Moon (for they are the vocal sample sources here) weren’t heavyweight cuts but arguably DJP’s new beats employ samples that have notions more attuned to the business of starting the party. For proof of that witness the way a contemplative one-bar synth-led loop is replaced by more urgent organ-led funk on The Nod Factor and especially the way moody jazz samples are replaced by good-time bar piano-led funk on How Many Emcees Must Get Dissed.
(Out 21 August on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings)
