KELLY FINNIGAN feat. RENALDO DOMINO: Keep Me In Mind (Vinyl 7″)

Once a staple of soul music, the duet has been a rare beast on the funk/ soul revival scene since things kicked off with the arrival of The Poets of Rhythm and the Desco/Daptone family in the 90s. Enter Kelly Finnigan to put things right with new single Keep Me In Mind. It’s a cover of a 1967 cut by Samson & Delilah on which he duets with Chicago soul veteran Renaldo Domino whose career first took off in the era of the original’s release. Recorded via tape machine as all the best soul still is, the new version – like January’s Trust In Me – is also a previously unreleased cut from Finnigan’s A Lover Was Born LP sessions and also, like Trust In Me, showcases the rhythmically funkier side of Mr F. One for both the dancefloor and well – just whenever the hell you want – it’s got all the Eddie & Ernie and Bob & Gene vibes you’ve been missing.
