F-Spot Records’ imprint Pangea International Recording Co. returns following 2023 debut releases from The Sand Dollars and Os Zabelês with news of a new Sand Dollars 45. It’s a brace of covers once again but this time instead of giving the psychedelia of The Kinks and Donovan a jazz-bossa and cinematic soul makeover, respectively, label main-man Dan Ubick and studio legend Mario Calire time join forces to pretty much do the opposite with two giants of film score composition – Henry Mancini and Don Ralke. Thus it is that the former’s A Bluish Bag (from the Peter Gunn OST) and the latter’s equally sinuous exotica classic Moon Goddess get the full psychedelic treatment on 45.
(Out 4 December on Pangea International Recording Co.)
