Currently almost at the end of a five-date tour of the UK and Éire sometime Monophonics singer Kelly Finnigan has also just dropped a digital-only single that is a bonus cut from his A Lover Was Born LP sessions. That’ll be Trust In Me then and it’s an uptempo slice of gospel-tinged (stylistically rather than lyrically) funky soul in the mould of Rhetta Hughes’ sixties material. Once again eschewing the falsetto he likes to use reasonably frequently, on this one it’s a grittier delivery more suitable to a man having painful doubts about continuing a relationship and so good that you might wish it had come out on vinyl after all. Still – that artwork suggests it just might come out on wax at some future date. Catch our Kel at the Sugar Club in Dublin tonight and at Glasgow’s Oran Mor tomorrow night. Readers from France, Sweden and Germany, might like to know that Kelly is also turning up in Paris, Stockholm and Munich on 4, 9 and 16 February respectively.
