Take the title of Eleven 76’s debut single, Someone’s Always There, and it sounds rather comforting. I mean there you are driving along the shore of the Neusiedler See in an open top Ferrari 250 GT. You’re listening to something pleasantly downtempo – a bit Latin, a bit soul, flutes, tremolo guitar, cimbalom – this track basically – and who could be better company than your dollybird sat next to you, all cheekbones, headscarf, Jackie Onassis sunglasses and an enigmatic smile. Then again it is the Cold War and ‘someone’s always there’ could be more of ‘walls have ears’-type warning, couldn’t it? Uneasily you remember what you heard about Chapman-Smyth at the Vienna office – namely that his Austrian girlfriend was actually an assassin working for Hungarian intelligence and – well, let’s just say it didn’t end well for him. You glance over at your lady friend in the passenger seat and you start to wonder about that smile. Someone’s Always There is the first single from forthcoming album A Day Of Unrest.
