CLUB TIKKA 45 VOL. 6: Renegades Of Jazz ‘Moo Juice’ (Benji Boko remix)/ Timax ‘Ramsey’s Groove’ (ROJ remix)(2011)

Dropping at almost exactly the same time as Renegades Of Jazz’s excellent Moo Juice EP, this ultra-limited Club Tikka 45 is all set to make it an ROJ end-of-the-month. Containing a Benji Boko remix of the ROJ original featuring the vocal skills of Brighton’s soul/ hip-hop crew Boycom, it also boasts a Renegades Of Jazz remix of a Timax track on the flip. You’d have more luck finding a needle in a haystack than the bits of the ROJ original Boko has actually kept though but there’s no reason to doubt the summer vibe of his hip-house-beat-plus-acoustic guitar combo which bespeaks both a keen ear for the dancefloor and a penchant for sailing the seas of cheese. Preventing the track’s embarkation on such a voyage (and, indeed, of turning into the Doobie Brothers’ Long Train Runnin’) are Boycom who give it something of a UD/ ASM feel on the verse but for reasons best known to themselves plump for a 90s ‘acid jazz’ style sung chorus. Evil! Over on the flip, ROJ buries the less organic sounds of Timax’s original and makes it go a bit faster in his own inimitable northern jazz stylee…

Volume 6 in the Club Tikka 7inch series is dedicated to the mighty Renegades Of Jazz. Signed to Smoove’s Newcastle based Wass Records label, the North German producer unit offers a full-on summer remix vibe of their ‘Moo Juice’ track courtesy of Benji Boko & BOY COM. On the flipside you have the first ever vinyl appearance of Pete Rivera (Rivera Rotation) & Rob Hardt’s (Cool Million, Seductive Souls) Timax project. Renegades Of Jazz added some heavy bass spice to their “Cote D’Azur” album favourite “Ramsey’s Groove”.
