“Master of the elements is here/ And my tribe has no fear,” there’s no mistaking the voice of Cannibal Ox emcee Vast Aire as the man re-surfaces on new single Airebender – apparently as blissfully unaware of the vagaries of British-English slang as the financial backers of the film The Last Airbender. Other than that, it’s all good news for fans of Can. Ox who will also prick up their ears at news that returning too is producer Cosmiq. That’ll be the man who so capably picked up the beats on second Can Ox LP, Blade Of The Ronin, where El-P had left off on The Cold Vein. And yes, the beat here is distinctly – well – Ox-ish. The track will appear on our man’s forthcoming solo LP Aireplane which will be preceded by the Aireport EP. And on the strength of those titles alone, I’m looking forward to all the other potential track titles which pun off film titles that include the word ‘air,’ – Aire Heads, Aire America, or, my favourite, Con Aire…
