Miami seems to be hot on the U.S. funk-soul scene these days. I mean there’s the Tiki Tumbao label with Tony & The Kings on their roster (among others) and now you can add new F Spot Records’ signings Fat Produce. A soul-jazz trio, the band includes Michael Duffy of fellow F-Spot signings The White Blinds and the new 45 features two instrumental cuts, A-side Sticky Beets and B-side SON!. The former is a jazzy affair that draws on a stylistic lineage encompassing Grant Green, Idris Muhammed and The JB’s while the latter is a looser, stankier swamp funk type of deal though both find the band very capably demonstrating their chops.
