The third single from forthcoming LP Ornithology by cinematic soul outfit The Diasonics is just out. And like both the LP and previous singles Oriole and Chickadee, its title is also avian-themed – to wit – (see what I did there?) Larks. Well sort of. Larks is also the name of a suburban Moscow railway station. Also, unusually for The Diasonics, this one does have a vocalist. Naturally, when I say ‘vocalist’ I mean the wafty lyric-less kind to be found on softcore 70s soundtracks, you understand. Meanwhile, the music itself powers along on a skippy drum break and Rhodes-style synthesizer voices – and inspires a kind of muscular meditativeness. Incidentally, it was the coincidence of Larks the station having a bird-sounding name that inspired the whole bird-naming concept of the album. I know right. What larks!
