If you were going to promote a club night you were starting, their are a lot worse ways to do it than drop your own release – especially if it’s of the calibre of Oz duo Sharif Galal X DJ Galleon’s Suite Grooves Vol. 1. A three-track set, it’s essentially funky breakbeat music – in the case of Take A Trip of the purest kind – driven by heavily syncopated drums, featuring clav, Hammond organ and wah-wah guitar but with a hip-hop level of chunk which the Rephrase remix only serves to intensify. The final cut provides something of a counterpoint to the above having used traditional Egyptian folk tune Samah El-Nouba, as its basis which gives it a certain distinctiveness. While still a breakbeat instro and a funky one at that – it’s more the sort you could slot in in comfortably between the likes of your old Propellerheads and Bentley Rhythm Ace 12″s.
