Time was when the monkey used to think of The Mighty Mocambos as the ‘parent’ project to Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band. Nowadays however, the latter’s profile is so high, it’s the former that often seems like the side project. But don’t let that fool you – the Mocambos have still got plenty of fire in the hole and here’s the second single from the forthcoming A Higher Frequency LP (due in June) entitled Spinning to prove it. A mid-tempo funky bump with Spaghetti Western horns and psych-funk flute it will be one of only a small number of vocal cuts on the LP featuring regular Mocambos singer/ collaborator Nichola Richards that, like its predecessor, dangles the promise of an excellent album to come.
