It might’ve been a while since we last heard from The Mighty Mocambos but new single Open The Gate resoundingly blows the cobwebs off their equipment and out of your ears. Grounded by a blistering drum break, this one barrels along with horns, guitars and organ all vying with each other. Come the hook though it’s all about the monster-sized horns which go nuclear. Nearly three minutes later and you’ll feel like you’ve just gone a few rounds with Mike Tyson while standing in a wind tunnel. Open The Gate is, (appropriately enough, given the title) the opener to, yes, a forthcoming new long player from Camp Mocambo entitled A Higher Frequency which is due to drop in June.
