Morlack‘s named his new EP Skunky Bank. Criticism of neoliberal financial practice or just a bit of rhyming slang? Hard to tell. Let’s have a look at what he’s knocked out instead. First up is Strictly Roots – a heavy A Skillz-style bashment re-rub of Althea & Donna’s Uptown Top Rankin’ (notice I said ‘Rankin’) and then he shuffles out a murky bit of swing breaks psychedelia which employs a filtered Workin’ It vocal from Del The Funky Homosapien for added weirdness. Nobody’s weird like Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry of course and what do you know – the seminal reggae legend turns up next on a positively vibrating-slab of dubbed-out wobble. Last of all is a ghetto-funked up re-fluff of Unity 2’s classic ’89 ska-hop cut Shirlee with an Alkaholiks vocal. Shirlee, then – my favourite, surely.
