[RATING: 5] If you thought your luck was in with Jimi Needles’ four track Reggae Rewinds freebie yesterday you’re going to shit when you cop a load of this. Reggae/hip-hop mashup grandaddy JStar has just put out Vol. 2 of a promised 4 volume series for his Most Wanted series of ‘Killa Reggae Mashups’. There’s no beating around the bush, it’s just floor-fillers from start to finish. Like rappers on dancehall-beats? How about reggae Lil Kim (Kingston Lighters)? Reggae Busta Rhymes (the brilliantly titled Wooh Star)? Or reggae Warren G on Regulate Rock? Then again, maybe it’s dancehall artists on hip-hop beats that floats your boat (Elephant Man on the Got Your Money instro?) or soul divas like Diana Ross on reggae beats – she’s Dubbing Out! What more do you want? What more could you want? How about some Sandy Balls? No, I’m not talking about either a dubiously-named New Forest campsite or a side effect of getting jiggy on the beach but rather a JStar alias under which name he made one of the monkey’s favourite ever cuts – Superman. Which is ironically possibly the least reggae thing I’ve ever heard him do with little but the odd dancehall shoutout and dubby echo effect to give an irie edge to the soul vocal and uplifting soul breaks beat.
