It might not be out till the end of next month but make no mistake, putting Voxatone’s new 45 Altair V b/w Vampyrim on pre-sale for Halloween was entirely appropriate. It’s the latest from the outfit named after the multiple vintage instruments that its members play with ‘vox’ in the name on Markey Funk’s Deights label. And, if that sounds a little nerdy, then long live the nerds! For they’ve created yet another brace of creepy retro psychedelic cuts that evoke a lost 1960s era of cult horror and science-fiction cinema. Altair V swirls funkily around in the lower cloud-wreathed atmospheres of alien planets above surfaces bubbling with magma while Vampyrim lithely writhes to sepulchral retro-synth tones amid the churning mists of derelict, night-haunted graveyards…
