Super early heads-up time here with news of a real treat from Bristol producer Vice Beats in the form of forthcoming 7″, That Love. Seems this 45 has been pressed up to celebrate the track’s two year anniversary in which time its notched up – ooh – a million plus plays. Lifted from the only official J Dilla tribute LP to have originated in the UK – i.e. VB’s Dilla: The Timeless Tribute, That Love is a rework of Dilla-produced Slum Village cut, Fall In Love. Unlike Dilla’s fairly sparse production on the original however, the music on this version is, ironically, more layered and well, Dilla-ish. On the mic, the place of Baatin and T3 is taken by the more than capable Audessey of Soundsci while Greg Blackman lays down a mellow soul hook. Such is Vice Beats’ largesse though that he’s only got his rework remixed on the flip by Smoove who goes even more Dilla-ish by smoothing (no pun intended) out the drums and applying lashings of gorgeous strings. How d’you like that love? Just the humble Juno player for now, by way of audio but then this drop is a ways off yet!
