Previously famous for covering Duffy’s megahit Mercy in a more authentically sixties manner than Duffy, The Third Degree have now crafted a future retro soul version of Kylie Minogue’s megahit Can’t Get You Out Of My Head. Hearing Kylie’s version used to trigger memories of a video where she suggestively rubbed her thighs. In the absence of any promotional video from The Third Degree what my mind’s eye sees when I hear their version is Kylie suggestively rubbing her thighs and singing in a man’s voice. Try getting that out of your head. Surely Smoove (of future retro soul duo Smoove & Turrell) must have been similarly affected whilst on remix duties and yet he’s soldiered on to produce this bongofied drums of death retouch. Above and beyond. Word on the street has it that Acid Jazz will probably release The Third Degree’s version soon on seven inch with a slightly shorter edit of the Smoove remix on the flip. Smoove tells me that the longer version on the player below may well appear at a later date on 12″. Enjoy and check out The Third Degree’s Mercy video below that…

This is my favourite song of 2012! A very different and incredibly funky take on a pop classic! Somebody should send it to Kylie herself – She’ll love it!
