DJ’s Choice label boss Tommaso Taroni may be better known to MB readers as DJ/ producer The Rebel and he dons his production hat once more for the momentous release of the first single off his debut LP of original material. That’ll be one featuring NYC emcee Corey James Gray entitled Crowns which you get two versions of on this 45 – the original A-side version and the ‘Clap! Clap! Power Trio Version’ on the flip. The first of these boasts a crazy flute-led staccato beat over which Gray holds forth on the mic while the B-side retains the vocal but jettisons the original beat for something that sounds like the distilled energy of all the best carnivals you’ve ever been too. And I’m not sure I don’t prefer it.
