It might have the same name as the Massive Attack’s 1991 Blue Lines LP opener but The Bamboos’ Safe From Harm is certainly not a cover. Featuring Reginald AK on vocals, this is mellow synth-drenched 80s neo-soul and if that’s your bag, you’ll be – well – safe from harm, with bandleader Lance Ferguson as firmly on top of the sub-genre as he is with whatever furrow he chooses to plough. It is a world away from the raw funk of early Bamboos material however, so if you haven’t checked in with the band for a few years, it could be something of a shock. Just as well it’s a mellow one, eh? Mind you, if you’ve been tracking their progress over the last couple of decades, you’ll know they’ve never been a band to rest on their laurels. The track is lifted from forthcoming Bamboos LP, This Is How They Do It due 3 November this year.
