Another year, another Smith & The Honey Badgers single. Makes them almost sound prolific doesn’t it? Except for the fact that last year’s single Shadows was the first in nine years! That probably means we should see the LP around 2064, right? Wrong! Word on the street says it’s out September/ October and Better Times b/w Love So Bad Pt 2 is the next single off it! Blimey – better times indeed – see what you can accomplish when your band’s not hamstrung by a global pandemic and The Allergies have stopped stealing your singer for a bit? Anyway – Better Times is the crazy fast dancefloor funk nugget while the flip is Love So Bad Pt. 2 – billed as the swamp-funky one on which the topline is split between sax on the instrumental first half and ‘Smith’ – a.k.a. singer Marietta Smith on the second. After which she needs a bath and a drink – as you can see from the cover art. Of course that tub isn’t filled with water though is it? No it isn’t m’lud – I present you with the cover art of the previous single in which we view Smith in said bath from above and neck deep in 45s. Ladies and gentleman – the crazy world of Smith & The Honey Badgers! Turns out the wax version of the single is strictly limited to 25 lathe-cut 45s with the band’s logo on the A-side and a name of the buyer’s choice on the flip – get on it!
