PEKI MOMÉS: Yildiz (Estrelar) b/w Bahar (Vinyl 7″)

After the success of debut 45 Göç Mevsimi back in the autumn – which made such a splash that Iggy Pop played it on his BBC show – comes an equally spirited follow-up from Peki Momés. On the A-side it’s all about the cover of Marcos Valle’s classic boogie-funk banger Estrelar – now sung in Turkish, of course but maintaining those boogie vibes so faithfully, I’ll be surprised if Smoove isn’t sniffing round demanding to do an extended remix. Watch this space. Meanwhile, B-side Bahar goes all wafty psychedelic disco with the lyrics pursuing the tedium of waiting for spring to get sprung which functions equally well when taken literally or as a metaphor given the current wintry political state of the globe. Either way, you’re invited to dance as you wait out the bleakness.
