LONDON INTERNATIONAL SKA FESTIVAL: 13-16 April (2017)

In just over a month it’s time for the London International Ska Festival again, the event (launched in 1988) that celebrates all things ska from its pre-history in calypso and rnb through the Jamaican first wave, the 2 Tone revival, 90s ska punk and beyond. This year there’ll be around a hundred bands appearing, DJs, films, sound systems, official Trojan Records and Greensleeves Records events, Thames cruises and a free family day among other things. Fourteen of more than twenty events have already been confirmed and you can expect headline appearances from the likes of Freddie McGregor, Yellowman, King Jammy, The Pioneers, Dave & Ansel Collins, Owen Gray, Bitty Mclean, Misty In Roots, Pama International, Rhoda Dakar, Carroll Thompson, Brinsley Forde (Aswad), John Holt and Phyllis Dillon plus the Channel One sound system and the film Dance Craze film screened from the original 70mm reels.
