Still seeking musical inspiration in the decades of the 1960s and 70s but eschewing the rocksteady and reggae he is more normally associated with for soul on this new single, it’s Jr Thomas in the company of Eraserhood Sound with Can’t Leave You Alone. As it happens, Thomas had been working on this song and other material on his lonesome but, after hearing the work of Eraserhood Sound’s work with the likes of Say She She, he realised he’d found the collaborators he didn’t even know he needed and a whole album was put together. This lead single sets the tone for the LP with its jangly retro-soul revelling in analog production and introspective lyrics and yielding results not unlike those to be found coming from Monophonics singer Kelly Finnigan.
