Pitched somewhere between funk and hip-hop, La Lucha is the second slice of heavy-hitting Latin action that MB has featured in twenty-four hours. This time around it’s the turn of Madrid outfit Danzón El Gato featuring Puerto Rican singer Marina of Marina Y Su Melao and a track that opens to the sort of Klaxon sounds you might expect on a fiery Pharoahe Monche or Mobb Deep track. Ominous bassy piano chords are soon joined by menacing squelchy guitar wah and Marina chanting over the top and then the groove proper begins with soaring vocals from Marina who seems to be singing a song of righteous protest against injustice. I’ll have what she’s having!
