HAMMOND CLASSICS: Maculele 02Hammond Classics seems to have been absent for nearly as along as it’s been since the last time anyone sent the monkey any Latin breakbeat tunes – but Maculele 02 shows there’s mileage yet in reworking South American rhythms. At three tracks long, this release is one cut longer than its predecessor and travels a similar path in giving some bass and breakbeat heft to ritmos afro-cumbia. Dominante offers a commanding opening with a lively horns-rich groove – a jubilant vibe similarly channelled on third track Papalona – while Caremelo‘s more sinuous groove sits in the middle and doesn’t so much nod to reggaeton rhythms as get down and dirty on the dancefloor with them.
